Not From Around Here

This location near Harlem in north-central Montana is typical of many areas along the Hi-Line. The ground is strewn with rocks that were brought from Canada by ice age glaciers. These were great places to find rocks suitable for use as "boiling stones". The rounded cobbles of quartzite and other hard rocks from Canada were more desirable than the softer sedimentary rocks, which are native to this area.
