HOMEPAGE for Earth Science Teachers This is a model that I use to help my students understand the formation of the northern lights (and southern lights). The model is constructed from a styrofoam sphere and pipe cleaners. The blue pipe cleaners represent the Earth's magnetic field and the yellow pipe cleaner represents the auroral oval.
